Mitochondria in Motion and Much Much More!

Hello Dr. Palmer, Harvard has been putting up a number of these animation videos describing cellular function. This animation of Mitochondria in motion might be more applicable when we get to "Structure and Function of Cells." Nevertheless, it is an interesting and exciting look at cellular function. I'm looking forward to learning about the many functions within the human body that often go overlooked. Mitochondria http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrS2uROUjK4 This next video footage is of an exciting new bit of surgical technology. The da Vinci Surgical System allows surgeons to perform invasive surgery without actually entering the human themselves. Some of the surgical footage may be too graphic for class. I think this procedure may be a bit controversial; although this machine is being controlled by the doctor, should the doctor be closer to the surgery? This also opens the window to programming future machines to perform surgery without the presence of a doctor. Is it safer to remove human error from surgery in this way? Can machines be trusted to perform these tasks; and if so, should we investigate this technology further? daVinciSurgery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NZLpWrJGgk Hope you find these things interesting. See you in class.
