Dear Dr. Palmer, I don't know if this would could as an extra credit article, but you definitely need to read this one anyway. It is an article about a college that has recognized that schools have learned how to teach the humanities to scientists, but the reverse cannot be said. The unique way that they address this problem can, and in my opinion, needs to happen here at the university. I know too many people who worry so much about doing well that they lose sight of the true meaning of the class. In the four years that I have been at the U, yours is the only one that has created any kind of atmosphere that is close to the strategy in this article. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/22/nyregion/22science.html?_r=1&ref=... Most of the classes I have taken are with bio, chem, and engineering majors. It was nice to be in the same room with english, communication, and journalism majors talking about science and the issues it brings to the table. Just thought you would want to know.
